Heart Foundation Sounds Alarm on Tasmania’s Leading Killer

With heart disease claiming more than 1,300 Tasmanian lives each year, the Heart Foundation has brought its life-saving message to Agfest for the first time, offering free blood pressure and cholesterol checks on site.

“We’re here to raise awareness around heart health, risk factors, and prevention,” says Dr. Joce Nettlefold, General Manager of the Heart Foundation Tasmania. “Many visitors may not regularly access medical services. This gives them a simple but important opportunity to check in on their heart.”

The checks, run by a qualified team, are part of a broader push to encourage early intervention and education. “We’re not here to diagnose, but to help people understand their risks and follow up with their GP if they need to,” she says.

Joce urges Tasmanians to ask their doctor for a Heart Health Check or use the free online Heart Age Calculator and to take action before it’s too late.

Find the Heart Foundation at Site 917 on Ninth Ave.
